Electronics Security Technician Trainee

Position Overview

The Security Electronics Systems Apprentice is a foundational role designed for individuals seeking to develop their skills in the installation and maintenance of essential electrical and electronic systems. This position involves hands-on training and practical experience with various tools and equipment, requiring a basic understanding of electrical schematics and the National Electrical Code (NEC). The Apprentice is expected to actively pursue qualifications to advance to a Journey-person/Technician level by enrolling in relevant instructional courses and maintaining consistent attendance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare for cable installations with minimal supervision.
  • Assist in the pulling of various cables, including RG 6, Cat5e, and Fiber Optics.
  • Support the termination of cables, including butt splices and insulated connectors.
  • Conduct basic testing of cables using tools such as continuity testers and TDRs.
  • Help mount security devices, including door contacts and cameras.
  • Interpret blueprints to determine appropriate cables for installation.
  • Understand and apply relevant codes and standards for installation tasks.
  • Identify different cable types and their applications.
  • Assist in the installation of cable raceways and pathways.
  • Perform simple conduit bends as necessary.
  • Support the termination of various security devices.
  • Adhere to quality, safety, and attendance protocols.
  • Assist in testing security field devices.

Qualifications:

  • Candidates must undergo a government security investigation and meet eligibility criteria for access to classified information, including the ability to obtain a US DOD Top Secret security clearance.
  • A High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Reliable transportation is necessary.
  • Successful completion of a background check and drug test is mandatory.
  • Enrollment in an accredited apprenticeship program, such as Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC) or Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), is required.
  • Vocational or technical education training is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift at least 100 pounds and carry 60 pounds for extended periods.
  • Capability to relocate a 12-foot stepladder without assistance.
  • Comfortable working at heights up to 60 feet and maintaining balance on various types of ladders.
  • Engage in physical activities such as walking, climbing, lifting, and reaching on a regular basis.
  • Good vision and hearing capabilities are essential.
  • Ability to recognize potential issues and apply general rules to solve problems.
