Position Overview: The Branch Manager for Climate Strategy & Risk is responsible for guiding the development and implementation of innovative solutions, managing knowledge transfer, and facilitating training within the Climate Strategy & Risk team in Germany. This role requires close collaboration with the Global Climate Strategy Lead.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary contact in Germany for all matters related to Climate Strategy & Risk, overseeing project sales and execution.
- Lead a team of professionals (currently 2, with plans for expansion), ensuring effective team dynamics and project alignment.
- Maintain an overview of team competencies, recommending appropriate personnel for projects based on skills, experience, and developmental goals.
- Advise on team structure and competency evolution in relation to business needs, collaborating with country leadership and support functions.
- Foster team development, ensuring members are equipped for success and focused on continuous improvement while upholding scientific integrity and delivering high-quality projects.
- Align client requirements with existing and emerging solutions, acting as the primary representative of the branch within the global expertise community.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Act as a subject matter expert in climate-related issues, recognized both internally and externally for providing valuable insights into projects.
- Contribute advanced domain expertise while executing large-scale transformational initiatives.
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with senior client contacts, actively seeking exposure to executive sponsors.
- Play a proactive role in the sales process for all climate strategy and risk-related project opportunities.
Success Factors:
- Ability to quickly understand client needs and formulate relevant recommendations regarding climate strategy and risk.
- Creatively apply climate expertise to address unique client challenges in the context of key accounts and transformative initiatives.
- Develop innovative solutions to sustainability challenges, effectively communicating the rationale for transformative change to clients.
- Recognized as an effective leader within multiple teams and the global climate strategy community.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in a professional setting, preferably in the private sector with consulting experience.
- Expertise in Climate Strategy & Risk, including goal setting (Science-Based Targets, Net Zero), mitigation strategies, risk assessment, and major carbon accounting frameworks.
- A Master's or PhD degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- A strong scientific background coupled with intellectual curiosity and business acumen.
- Proven leadership and project management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide teams toward achieving objectives.
- Experience managing multiple significant projects and collaborating with stakeholders at various levels.
- Fluency in English is required; proficiency in German is highly desirable.
- Strong communication skills for external marketing and representation of the organization.
- A commitment to rigor, transparency, and practicality in providing actionable recommendations.
- Ability to convey complex concepts in a clear and persuasive manner to diverse audiences, including executives.
Work Environment: The role offers a hybrid working model, with frequent collaboration across various branches. Travel may be required occasionally.
