Campus Within Walls Adjunct Faculty
Job Summary:Southside Virginia Community College is seeking adjunct faculty with Master's level coursework in Social Sciences (Sociology, Psychology) for our Campus Within Walls program. This program provides second chances through higher education to incarcerated students, equipping them with the tools to successfully re-enter society and become productive citizens.
Job Responsibilities:- Teach Social Sciences courses in a correctional setting, with some travel required
- Design and execute effective teaching strategies in a setting without internet access
- Meet college deadlines and submit required reporting, including grades
- Adhere to the Transfer Virginia and VCCS student learning outcomes
- Master's degree in Social Sciences (Sociology, Psychology) or a Master's degree in any teaching field with at least 18 credit hours of postgraduate study in Social Sciences
- Valid driver's license and good driving record
- Adept knowledge of instructional technologies
- Excellent interpersonal and native or near-native oral and written English skills
- Ability to interact in a professional manner with staff, students, internal and external constituencies
- Ability to meet college deadlines
- Must pass Virginia Department of Corrections background screening
- Prior working experience in a community college or other higher education setting
- Prior working experience in a correctional center
- Professional experience in PeopleSoft or similar student registration software program
- Prior working experience with Learning Management Systems, especially Canvas
- Professional experience with Microsoft Office Suite Software, in particular, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
