Job Overview

The field of hydrogen production is evolving, and low-temperature electrolysis utilizing proton-exchange membrane (PEM) technology stands at the forefront. To leverage its significant technological benefits and enhance its longevity, it is crucial to deepen our fundamental insights into electrode functionality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Engage in the comprehensive understanding and development of models that elucidate the electrochemical behavior and efficiency of the membrane-electrode-assembly (MEA) within PEM electrolyzers. Your focus will be on identifying functional phenomena that restrict performance or operational capacity, stemming from the intricate interactions of various physical mechanisms.
  • Develop models that are applicable to both unaltered and compromised states of the MEA, contributing significantly to our multi-scale toolkit for predicting stack-level longevity.
  • Utilize both public and proprietary resources to parameterize and validate your models. Through model-driven analyses, enhance our comprehension of cause-and-effect dynamics and identify potential enhancements for our technology, while proposing experimental approaches for further model refinement and validation.
  • Collaborate with our team to advance our understanding of critical component functionality in hydrogen technologies, thereby creating an essential element in our electrolyzer modeling framework.
  • Recognizing the value of thorough literature review and effective communication, you will ensure you remain informed about both external and internal knowledge, thus providing a substantial contribution.
  • Actively leverage the existing expertise within our internal team and academic network, sharing your findings and insights in high-impact publications with our interdisciplinary and global teams.
Qualifications
  • Education: A distinguished Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience and Knowledge: A robust background in electrochemistry and transport phenomena, with experience in modeling and/or characterizing electrochemical energy storage devices or converters (such as batteries or fuel cells). Proficiency in programming (Python) and familiarity with simulation tools (Comsol) or numerical optimization techniques are advantageous.
  • Personality and Working Style: A scientifically innovative thinker who can quickly grasp complex challenges and advance projects independently.
  • Languages: Proficient in English; knowledge of German is a plus.
