Position Summary:
We are seeking a Transport Network Engineer II to contribute to the sustainment and management of critical network services. This role is essential in maintaining the integrity and availability of our Defense Information System Network (DISN) capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement network management systems, developing procedures and conducting analysis to support technical upgrades and refreshes.
  • Integrate new network hardware into operational environments, ensuring seamless functionality.
  • Monitor network changes and assess impacts on customer traffic, utilizing established best practices and customer feedback.
  • Advise management on optimal operational practices for network maintenance.
  • Provide engineering support, including data analysis, modeling, and flowchart updates to enhance network efficiency.
  • Conduct fault isolation and troubleshooting across various transport platforms, collaborating with engineers and vendors for root cause analysis.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in service management systems.
  • Deliver situational awareness reports to stakeholders.
  • Ensure the Mission Support Services database accurately reflects real-time network status.
  • Support maintenance activities by coordinating site data collection and technician dispatch.
  • Engage with problem management teams and vendor support for issue resolution.

Qualifications:

  • Must hold DoD 8750 certification at IAT level II, Security+ CE or equivalent.
  • Proficient in various transport platforms, including CIENA and Cisco systems.
  • Experience in analyzing optical network events and conducting end-to-end system testing.
  • Familiarity with troubleshooting optical networks and working with service providers.
  • Active Secret security clearance is required.

Preferred Skills:

  • Proficiency in Ciena and Cisco configurations, troubleshooting, and design.
  • Experience with power systems and network timing.
  • Knowledge of DWDM and SONET technologies.
  • Strong project management and communication skills.

Education:
A Bachelor’s degree with 2-4 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree with less than 2 years of experience is required. Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
