Position Summary:

We are seeking a Transport Network Engineer II to contribute to the operational integrity of our Defense Information System Network (DISN). This role is essential in ensuring the seamless functionality of communication services for our defense clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop network management systems, including the creation of Methods of Procedure and conducting thorough analyses to support hardware and software upgrades.
  • Oversee the implementation of new network hardware across operational nodes.
  • Deploy network modifications while monitoring customer traffic to assess any potential impacts.
  • Advise management on best practices for network operation and maintenance.
  • Provide engineering support, including data gathering and modeling, to optimize network configurations.
  • Conduct fault isolation and troubleshooting across various transport platforms, collaborating with other engineers and vendors for root cause analysis.
  • Maintain accurate documentation within ServiceNow and ensure situational awareness reporting to stakeholders.
  • Support maintenance activities by coordinating site data collection and technician dispatch.
  • Engage with problem management teams and vendor technical support for effective issue resolution.

Qualifications:

Basic Requirements:

  • Active DoD 8750 certification at IAT level II, Security+ CE, or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in transport platforms such as CIENA 6500, Cisco NCS2K, and others.
  • Experience in analyzing optical network events and conducting end-to-end system testing.
  • Familiarity with troubleshooting optical networks and working with service providers.
  • Active Secret security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise in Ciena and Cisco configurations and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with DWDM and SONET technologies.
  • Strong understanding of physical and data link network troubleshooting.
  • Excellent communication skills for conveying technical information effectively.

Education:

A Bachelor’s degree with 2-4 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree with less than 2 years of experience is required. Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
