Join Our Team

The Legal department at DeepL is in search of a seasoned and motivated professional to establish and lead our Compliance function. In this position, you will utilize your expertise to develop and implement essential compliance processes and procedures, with a strong focus on ethical standards. Initially, you will function as an individual contributor, spearheading the development of our compliance program. As the department expands, you will be expected to recruit, build, and lead a high-performing compliance team to ensure adherence to regulatory obligations, industry standards, and ethical practices.

Your Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and sustain an effective compliance program that includes relevant policies and procedures reflecting high ethical standards.
  • Foster a culture of integrity and ethics by integrating these values into all programs and processes.
  • Monitor and interpret regulatory changes, ensuring alignment of company policies with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments and formulate mitigation strategies.
  • Create and deliver compliance training programs for employees.
  • Collaborate with various business units (Engineering, Product, DevOps, Finance, People & Culture, etc.) to facilitate the implementation of compliance practices and controls within the organization.
  • Prepare and present compliance reports to senior management.
  • Continuously evaluate company risks, perform risk assessments, and implement risk treatment strategies.

Desired Qualifications

  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in Legal, Ethics, or Compliance.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing a comprehensive compliance program, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and ethical standards.
  • Strong people management skills, as this role involves building a compliance team.
  • A commitment to ethical standards and integrity, with the ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
  • A solid understanding of legal requirements and best practices in fraud detection and compliance.
  • Experience in a publicly listed company, particularly in the US, is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with software business processes is a plus.
  • Professional certifications (e.g., CCEP) are highly desirable.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
