Airbus Defence and Space is seeking a motivated individual for a Bachelor thesis in the field of Aircraft Ground Equipment Development.


Bachelor Thesis in Aircraft Ground Equipment Development

Location: Manching
Duration: Approximately 6 months (subject to university regulations)

The "AGE Development" department within the "Weapon System Integration Rigs" at Airbus Defence and Space is responsible for the engineering, qualification, and approval of Aircraft Ground Equipment. This includes everything from future concepts to design, development, acceptance, operation, and maintenance. Our main clients include programs such as Eurofighter, Tornado, and A400M, as well as unmanned aircraft programs and FCAS. We are looking for a student to assist with the porting of a digital actuator control system to a real-time operating system, considering certification according to DO-178/DO-331.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Conduct literature research on "Model-Based Development".
  • Conduct literature research on "Certification of Aviation Software".
  • Develop detailed analyses of various model-based development tools and code generators regarding DO-178/DO-331.
  • Analyze and describe the existing controller.
  • Identify requirements imposed by the target system on the model/code generator and analyze existing interfaces.
  • Port the existing model to the evaluated (new) tool.
  • Automatically generate real-time capable code tailored to the target system.
  • Verify control engineering properties after transitioning to the new modeling tool and deploying on target hardware.

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • Enrolled full-time student in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Knowledge in control and measurement technology.
  • Familiarity with requirements and systems engineering.
  • Initial experience with Matlab Simulink.
  • Language Skills (fluent in German, advanced in English).
  • Team-oriented, communicative, and capable of working independently.
