Research Scientist for Advanced Semiconductor Laser Modeling

Job Description

The Ferdinand-Braun-Institut, a leading research institute in the fields of high-frequency electronics, photonics, and quantum physics, is seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist to join its team. As a key member of the Chip Design group, you will be responsible for developing and implementing advanced mathematical models and numerical simulations for semiconductor lasers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and optimize semiconductor lasers with high output power and spectral stability
  • Perform numerical simulations of optical amplification, carrier transport, and electromagnetic field propagation using commercial software tools
  • Develop and implement new software tools for simulating semiconductor lasers based on numerical solutions of the drift-diffusion equations in collaboration with a project partner
  • Conduct comparative analyses of experimental results and simulation outcomes

Requirements:

  • Master's or Diploma degree in physics, photonics, electrical engineering, or a related field
  • Experience and knowledge in one or more of the following areas: theoretical semiconductor physics, laser theory, electrical engineering, commercial simulation programs, programming languages (Fortran, C++, MATLAB, Python, Julia)
  • Independent and careful work style, high degree of self-initiative, strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Excellent written and spoken English skills; German language skills desirable
