Principal Scientist in Machine Learning

Position Overview
Pfizer's Machine Learning Hub is on the lookout for a dedicated and innovative researcher in machine learning to develop and deploy cutting-edge tools aimed at enhancing drug discovery processes. As part of our Machine Learning Research team, you will create novel methodologies to extract insights from both proprietary and external datasets, generating testable hypotheses throughout the drug discovery pipeline with an emphasis on biological knowledge extraction. The selected candidate will also be responsible for establishing and managing collaborations, both internally and externally, to elevate Pfizer's machine learning capabilities. Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement sophisticated machine learning models tailored for the analysis of diverse biological data, including genomics, proteomics, and metabolomics.
- Enhance the internal machine learning technology stack to address challenges such as spurious correlations and the inherent complexity of biomedical data.
- Conduct research, design, and implement algorithms for analytical challenges pertinent to drug discovery.
- Collaborate actively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Plan, execute, and assess studies and experiments, interpreting results and communicating findings to scientists across various functions.
- Promote external visibility and scientific excellence by publishing and presenting research in reputable journals and conferences, while engaging with the broader scientific community.
Qualifications
- Formal education in Biology, Computational Biology, Statistics, Machine Learning, or a related field.
- A PhD along with a minimum of 2 years of relevant research experience in developing machine learning solutions, coupled with a genuine interest in computational life sciences.
- Practical experience in managing, processing, integrating, and analyzing large and varied biological datasets relevant to drug discovery.
- Demonstrated expertise in machine learning applications for computational biology.
- A highly creative individual with exceptional problem-solving abilities to address complex analytical tasks efficiently.
- A strong publication record and notable contributions to the field.
- Proficiency in ML libraries such as PyTorch and Lightning is essential, with advanced programming skills in Python. Familiarity with the Python scientific stack is advantageous.
- Experience with GPU computing on both local and cloud platforms.
- Fluency in version control tools and collaborative coding practices.
- A passion for data and a proven ability to transition ideas from prototype to production.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, a collaborative mindset, and strong written and verbal communication abilities.
Physical and Mental Requirements
Capability to perform mathematical calculations and conduct complex data analyses. Relocation support may be available based on business needs.
The annual base salary for this position ranges from $99,900.00 to $166,000. In addition, this role is eligible for participation in Pfizer's Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 15.0% of the base salary, along with eligibility for our share-based long-term incentive program. We provide comprehensive benefits and programs to support our colleagues in leading healthy lives and managing various life moments.
