The Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics (IPP) is at the forefront of fusion research, focusing on the scientific foundations necessary for future fusion energy production. We are seeking a dedicated Postdoctoral Researcher or Postdoctoral Engineer with a PhD, specializing in Finite Element Method (FEM) analysis, to contribute to our Engineering Analysis group within the Stellarator Dynamics and Transport Division.
Key Responsibilities- Conducting thorough requirements analysis and developing models for thermal, mechanical, and electromagnetic assessments of in-vessel components, structures, and diagnostic tools.
- Executing complex thermal, mechanical, and electromagnetic FEM analyses and determining operational limits for various components.
- Assessing and interpreting calculation outcomes in accordance with established standards.
- Independently managing, evaluating, and documenting research findings through comprehensive reports and presentations.
- Enhancing and benchmarking existing global FEM models.
- Creating and updating specialized auxiliary software using programming languages such as Python and MATLAB.
- Publishing significant findings in reputable journals and conferences.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A completed master's degree and a doctorate in engineering (thermal, mechanical, electrical) or experimental physics/applied mathematics.
- Experience with ANSYS Mechanical and familiarity with ANSYS APDL.
- Proficient programming skills in Python and MATLAB.
- Excellent command of the English language for effective communication within an international team.
