The position operates at the intersection of software engineering and conceptual aircraft design.
About the Department
As part of the Aerospace and Geodesy department, the Chair of Aircraft Design is dedicated to the development of both manned and unmanned aircraft. Our research focuses on critical areas such as scenario analysis, emerging trends and technologies, aircraft design for various operational contexts, and operational analysis and evaluation. This multidisciplinary approach fosters a rich environment for research in aerospace and software innovation.
Research Objectives
The primary research question we aim to address is: How can emerging technologies reshape aircraft configurations to promote a sustainable aviation ecosystem? The pursuit of environmentally friendly aviation is expected to yield radically different aircraft designs. To identify effective technology combinations, we are engaged in the development of the UNICADO framework, an open-source platform that spans multiple universities. Our goal is to enhance aerodynamics, fuel efficiency, and overall performance while ensuring the software remains extensible. The challenge lies in creating robust and efficient programs capable of simulating various propulsion systems and integration scenarios, ultimately contributing to the design of more efficient and sustainable aircraft. Additionally, the framework will serve as a valuable educational tool, enhancing the understanding of the interdisciplinary nature of aircraft design.
Candidate Profile
We are looking for a candidate with a solid foundation in software development, ideally complemented by knowledge in aerospace. A Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field is required, along with proficiency in programming languages such as Modern C++ and Python. The ideal applicant will have a proven track record of successful software projects, preferably within the aerospace sector, and a keen interest in tackling complex engineering challenges. Strong communication and writing skills in English are essential for publishing scientific papers and contributing to lectures and organizational activities within the department.
Employment Conditions
This position offers a full-time research role with a fixed-term contract, adhering to the German public service salary scale (TV-L E13).
