About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Scientific Software Consultant to join our team at the Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (KIT). As a key member of our Scientific Computing and Simulation Department, you will play a crucial role in optimizing scientific and technical applications and libraries for our High-Performance Computers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide optimized versions of scientific and technical applications and libraries to users on our High-Performance Computers.
  • Advise researchers on the efficient use of our High-Performance Computing resources.
  • Manage license quotas of commercial and scientific software packages.
  • Develop and implement license manager processes to ensure compliance with requirements.
  • Solve problems quickly and competently in close coordination with users and other experts.
  • Evaluate and install software packages on new architectures such as ARM processors or AMD GPUs.
  • Prepare teaching materials and documentation for supported software packages.
  • Support the review process for scientific computing time allotments on our HPC systems.
Requirements
  • University degree (Master's level) in Natural Sciences, Engineering, Computational Sciences, Computer Science, or Mathematics.
  • Profound experience in using and installing common software packages from various scientific disciplines.
  • Experience with software for new scientific methods or advanced software development methods.
  • Basic knowledge of Linux operating systems and software license managers.
  • Hands-on experience with Linux server system administration, shell scripting, and version management.
  • Basic knowledge and experience with programming languages and advanced paradigms.
  • Good English and basic German language skills.
  • High degree of initiative, result orientation, and teamwork.
