Job Description

The Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (KIT) is seeking a highly skilled Scientific Software Consultant to join our team at the Scientific Computing Center (SCC).

The SCC is the information technology center of KIT, providing large-scale facilities for scientific High-Performance Computing (HPC) and Data-Intensive Sciences. As a Scientific Software Consultant, you will play a crucial role in optimizing scientific and technical applications and libraries for our users on our High-Performance Computers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide optimized versions of scientific and technical applications and libraries to users on our High-Performance Computers.
  • Advise researchers on the efficient use of our HPC systems.
  • Manage license quotas of commercial, scientific software packages and develop license manager processes.
  • Solve problems quickly and competently in close coordination with users and other experts.
  • Install and evaluate software packages on new architectures such as ARM processors or AMD GPUs.
  • Prepare teaching materials and documentation for supported software packages and participate in workshops and training courses.
  • Support the review process for scientific computing time allotments on the HPC systems and contribute to the further development of processes and services for user support.
Requirements:
  • University degree (Master's level) in the Natural Sciences, Engineering, Computational Sciences, Computer Science, or Mathematics.
  • Profound experience in using and installing at least two common, relevant software packages from various scientific disciplines.
  • Basic knowledge of Linux operating systems and software license managers.
  • Good English and basic German language skills.
  • High degree of initiative, result orientation, and teamwork.
