The Role
We're seeking an experienced Unreal Engine Programmer to join our engineering team. As a key member of our team, you'll be responsible for optimizing the performance of Unreal Engine 5 across mobile devices, collaborating with designers and artists to build solid foundations for mobile action games, and contributing to the project directly as an important individual contributor.
Key Responsibilities
- Optimize the performance of Unreal Engine 5 across mobile devices
- Follow best practices and technical solutions with regards to coding standards, design patterns, and elevate said practices with the core tech team
- Report current status, risks, and task updates to the team and production to ensure project transparency as well as review requirements, estimate tasks, create additional tasks required to deliver your work
- Identify and escalate issues and risks, including impacts to the deadline, ambiguity in requirements, or strategy
- Troubleshoot and test in collaboration with the QA team
- Collaborate with all crafts on solutions, improvements, and understanding of Unreal to raise the overall technical competency of the team in regards to Unreal Engine capabilities
- Work with the tech team and lead developers to propose technical solutions, new technology, or optimizations in the game architecture
- Provide peer mentorship, code reviews, and paired programming with other members of the tech team as needed
- Build systems that scale across a wide range of mobile hardware, and validate runtime performance through analysis and optimization (both code and data)
- Analyze and fix common problems in game engines such as load times, memory usage, user experience, and performance problems
- Own and improve the tools and workflow strategy to increase developer efficiency and autonomy
- Ensure pipelines are fit to purpose and are scalable through the game development process
- Work with the tech team to own the localization feature and efforts to drive the strategy for bringing the game to new regions globally
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience as a programmer within games
- Experience in at least one shipped mobile or console game developed on Unreal Engine 4 or 5
- Demonstrated expertise in C++
- Strong understanding of best coding practices and algorithms
- Aptitude for breaking down complex problems and high-level product requirements into technical design and tasks
- Demonstrated ability to manage production time and meet deadlines
- Continued interest in keeping up-to-date with the latest Unreal has to offer
