Our mission is to develop sustainable technologies that address pressing global challenges. We are currently seeking a qualified individual for our Institute of Atmospheric Physics located in Oberpfaffenhofen.
This role involves integrating research findings into a global climate model to assess the climate impacts of cutting-edge propulsion technologies. You will be part of the EU project HYDEA (HYdrogen DEmonstrator for Aviation), which focuses on equipping an Airbus A380 with a hydrogen engine, alongside our internal project H2CONTRAIL and various international partnerships.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting high-resolution simulations of contrails from future hydrogen-powered aircraft.
- Performing detailed comparisons of simulation results with measurement data from initial flight test campaigns.
- Engaging with interdisciplinary research areas, including atmospheric physics, numerical modeling, aerosol and cloud physics, and fluid mechanics.
To qualify for this position, candidates should possess:
- A completed scientific university degree (Master or Diploma) in natural sciences such as meteorology, physics, mathematics, or engineering disciplines relevant to the role.
- A doctorate in meteorology, physics, or aerospace engineering, particularly with a focus on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) or aerosol and cloud microphysics.
- Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, Matlab, Fortran, and/or C, along with proficiency in Linux.
- In-depth knowledge of CFD, atmospheric physics, aerosol and cloud microphysics, and propulsion/combustion technology.
- Excellent command of written and spoken English.
We are committed to providing numerous training and development opportunities to our employees. We value equal opportunities and aim to enhance the representation of women in science and leadership roles.
We prioritize applicants with severe disabilities who meet the qualifications.
