Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled professional to leverage your expertise in safety engineering and quantitative risk assessments (QRA) as well as fire and explosion risk assessments (FERA) to contribute to innovative and secure design solutions in the Green Energy sector. To excel in this position, a robust technical foundation in safety engineering and experience in executing QRAs and FERAs within the Energy industry is essential.

Departmental Integration

As a pivotal member of our Technical Safety Department, you will collaborate with a diverse team of over 20 Safety Engineers. This role involves close cooperation with colleagues across various countries, fostering a dynamic and supportive work environment.

The team comprises a blend of emerging talents and seasoned professionals, engaging in a variety of stimulating projects aimed at advancing the Green Energy transition, including the shift towards sustainable fuels such as hydrogen, methanol, and ammonia.

Key Focus Areas

The Safety Department specializes in both onshore and offshore facilities, particularly in Power-to-X/Waste-to-X technologies and Carbon Capture initiatives, as well as Offshore Wind projects. Our work spans across northern Europe and beyond, addressing all safety dimensions through design, engineering, and consultancy services.

Core Competencies

Our expertise encompasses HSE management and risk management throughout the engineering phases of projects, including:

  • Process safety
  • Technical safety
  • Functional safety

We conduct comprehensive risk identification (HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, and Design Reviews), risk assessment (QRA/FERA), and risk treatment (ALARP).

Responsibilities

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and coordinating quantitative risk assessments (QRA) and fire and explosion risk assessments (FERA) utilizing QRA software (PHAST/SAFETI)
  • Creating guidelines, tools, and templates for QRAs and FERAs
  • Developing capabilities for dispersion and fire/explosion modeling using commercial CFD software (FLACS/InFlux)
  • Preparing safety documentation throughout project engineering phases
  • Participating in safety workshops, including HAZID, HAZOP, and LOPA
  • Assessing risks and implementing risk reduction measures in line with the ALARP principle

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Natural Sciences (e.g., Physics, Mathematics, Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemistry)
  • A minimum of three years of experience as a Technical Safety Engineer in the Energy sector
  • A solid understanding of mathematical modeling related to physical phenomena, including fire and explosion scenarios
  • Experience in leading and coordinating QRAs and FERAs
  • Proficiency with relevant QRA software (e.g., DNV PHAST/SAFETI, Shell FRED, or Gexcon Effects/Risk Curves)
  • Strong command of the English language

Additional Assets

Experience in the following areas will be advantageous:

  • Dispersion and fire/explosion modeling using CFD software (e.g., Gexcon FLACS and Insight Numerics InFlux)
  • Preparation of safety documentation during project engineering (e.g., safety philosophies, HAZID, and HAZOP)
  • Familiarity with major accident hazard legislation (e.g., Seveso and COMAH directives)
  • Engagement with regulatory authorities (e.g., HSE in the UK, DSB in Norway)
