Department Insights
As a pivotal member of our Technical Safety Department, you will collaborate with a dynamic team of over 20 Safety Engineers. This diverse group comprises both seasoned professionals and emerging talents, working collectively on a variety of stimulating projects aimed at advancing the Green Energy transition, including the shift towards sustainable fuels such as hydrogen, methanol, and ammonia.
The Safety Department focuses on both onshore and offshore facilities, emphasizing Power-to-X/Waste-to-X technologies and Carbon Capture initiatives, as well as Offshore Wind projects. Our work spans across northern Europe and beyond, delivering comprehensive safety solutions through design, engineering, and consultancy services that encompass all safety dimensions, including feasibility studies, detailed engineering, and permitting processes.
Core Competencies
Our expertise lies in HSE management and risk management throughout the engineering phases of projects, which includes:
- Process safety, technical safety, and functional safety
- Risk identification methodologies (HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, and Design Reviews)
- Risk assessment practices (QRA/FERA) and risk mitigation strategies (ALARP)
Key Responsibilities
Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Leading and coordinating quantitative risk assessments (QRA) and fire and explosion risk assessments (FERA) utilizing QRA software (PHAST/SAFETI)
- Creating guidelines, tools, and templates for QRA and FERA processes
- Developing capabilities for dispersion and fire/explosion modeling using commercial CFD software (FLACS/InFlux) in relation to QRA and FERA
- Preparing safety documentation throughout project engineering phases
- Participating in safety workshops (including HAZID, HAZOP, and LOPA)
- Assessing risks and implementing risk-reducing measures in accordance with the ALARP principle
Qualifications for Success
To thrive in this role, you should possess:
- A Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Natural Sciences (e.g., Physics, Mathematics, Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemistry)
- A minimum of 3 years of experience as a Technical Safety Engineer within the Energy sector
- A solid understanding of mathematical modeling related to physical phenomena (e.g., fire and explosion scenarios) and frequency modeling (e.g., event-tree analysis)
- Experience in conducting and leading QRAs and FERAs
- Familiarity with relevant QRA software (e.g., DNV PHAST/SAFETI, Shell FRED, or Gexcon Effects/Risk Curves)
- Proficient English communication skills
Additional Skills
It is advantageous to have:
- Experience with dispersion and fire/explosion modeling using CFD software (e.g., Gexcon FLACS and Insight Numerics InFlux)
- Knowledge of safety documentation processes during project engineering (e.g., safety philosophies, HAZID, and HAZOP)
- Familiarity with legislation frameworks for major accident hazards (e.g., Seveso-directive and COMAH-directive)
- Experience in engaging with regulatory authorities (e.g., HSE in the UK, DSB in Norway)
