This master's thesis focuses on the integration of RADAR and LiDAR technologies to enhance localization capabilities in difficult outdoor environments. You will assess the current research landscape regarding the benefits and limitations of various sensor systems, aiming to determine the effectiveness of their fusion for localization tasks. Your role will involve designing a post-processing framework to create a unified point cloud and developing a methodology to leverage this data within a generalized point cloud odometry algorithm. You will implement your solutions using ROS on our robotic platforms and conduct regular testing and evaluations across diverse agricultural settings and varying weather conditions.
Qualifications
- Academic background in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field
- Strong proficiency in C++ programming
- Familiarity with ROS (Robot Operating System)
- Passion for mobile robotics and automation
- Proficient in English or German
