About the Department
The Department of Engineering at RWE Renewables provides technical expertise for onshore wind farms, photovoltaic, and battery electric storage systems. Our services include project development, design, construction, and operations. The Site Assessment and Modelling team within Project Engineering Germany is responsible for specialist services such as layout design, energy calculation topics, and wind measurements from remote sensing devices and meteorological masts.
About the Role
As a Wind Monitoring Systems Engineer, you will be based in Hamburg, Hanover, or Essen in Germany. Your primary responsibilities will include coordinating and installing wind monitoring equipment and activities, ensuring data provision, data management, analysis, and processing of wind, energy, and load-relevant climate data for our onshore wind farm sites.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate the installation, refurbishment, and decommissioning of monitoring equipment, as well as provide services to prospecting, development, operations, and third-party services (wind and acoustics).
- Collect, provide, and manage the storage of all data from permanent meteorological masts, remote sensing, and third-party sources.
- Perform due diligence work on quality-relevant documentation of the measurement systems/campaigns (e.g., technical design and equipment, installation and maintenance protocols, calibration certificates).
- Continuously monitor wind and other meteorological measurement results to ensure high data quality and fulfillment of project timelines and budget plans.
- Plan and execute maintenance and repair work on measurement systems.
- Process and analyze measurement data using industry-standard or equivalent in-house software (e.g., Windographer, MMMT, Smart Data Pipeline).
- Provide support for power performance and noise monitoring using masts and remote sensing.
- Coordinate internal/external stakeholders and contractual partners within the scope of monitoring activities from design to decommission.
- Review technical, planning, and tender documents, evaluate bids, and support contract negotiations with suppliers and service providers for prompt initiation/extensions of contracts.
- Ensure compliance with applicable technical international standards for wind system design and H&S safety standards for field work activities.
Your Qualifications
- A completed vocational training with several years of relevant work experience or a successfully completed university degree in engineering or a comparable field of study.
- Extensive experience in dealing with measurement networks, data logging, and storage systems.
- Experience in stakeholder management and project management.
- Basic knowledge of logistics and electronics.
- A good level of physical fitness and exposure to tough working outside environments.
- Excellent team work dynamics and autonomy.
- The flexibility to travel for short periods within Germany.
- Good German and English language skills are mandatory.
- Full driver's license including towing a trailer is required.
