The Role
We are seeking a R&D Technologist for Bionutrient Applications Specialist for our Innovation team. The ideal candidate will have demonstrable expertise in fermentation science and will be responsible for:
- Developing application models within the area of microbial fermentation for different market segments.
- Conducting demonstration studies showcasing the performance of Ohly's products.
- Supporting new product development and product improvement initiatives in close cooperation with other R&D and process engineering functions.
Your Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Planning, initiating, executing, and evaluating experiments and technical projects in the areas of fermentation and microbiology.
- Executing lab-scale microbial fermentations using various setups and providing analysis of fermentation profiles.
- Continuously developing and improving methodologies, experimental protocols, and validation study procedures.
- Performing full physical, biological, and chemical characterization of tested products.
- Managing project plans, including detailed action plans, timelines, defining milestones, and risks identification.
- Effectively organizing, interpreting, and presenting data to relevant stakeholders across the organization.
- Making recommendations for product development projects based on continuous observations and evaluation of recent research and new technologies.
- Performing literature searches on new developments in the target market segments.
- Day-to-day coordination, mentoring, and training of lab technicians and students.
Your Profile
The ideal candidate will have:
- A Master's Degree in Microbiology, Fermentation Science, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Bioprocess Technology, Biochemical Engineering, or related fields. A doctoral degree is considered a plus.
- At least 3 years of industrial experience within microbial fermentation, ideally in the field of starter culture, probiotics, production of enzyme and bioingredients, or biopharma.
- Demonstrated expertise in fermentation science, bioprocess development, microbial metabolism, and culture management.
- Demonstrated experience in running daily fermentation lab operations, including proficiency in handling bioreactors and other fermentation setups.
- Good knowledge of analytical methodologies for analysis of fermentative processes.
- Comfortable in the use of statistical tools for Design of Experiment. Knowledge of R and/or Python for data analysis is considered a plus.
- Ability to deliver clear, compelling, and effective technical presentations to colleagues and managers.
- Ability to work well in a dynamic environment and balance multiple projects as a team player with a good deal of autonomy.
- Strong interpersonal skills, being curious, creative, and willing to learn.
- Good command of English, both spoken and written. German knowledge is considered a plus.
