Critical Infrastructure Carpenter Technician

Position Overview:

The Facilities Carpentry Specialist II will be an integral part of our Facilities Engineering Operations & Maintenance (O&M) team. This role is designed for individuals with substantial hands-on experience in critical facility upkeep and carpentry, complemented by a robust background in construction oversight. The technician will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing critical facilities, employing carpentry skills for various repair and improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct routine maintenance and repair operations on critical facilities, focusing on wood and metal doors, locks, windows, and metal wall stud framing.
  • Perform maintenance on door hardware, including cleaning, lubricating, and inspecting mechanical and electromechanical devices.
  • Assess and adjust the operation and alignment of doors, troubleshooting and resolving any operational issues.
  • Execute ancillary carpentry tasks related to door and window installations.
  • Construct or modify building partitions and ceilings as necessary for door installations.
  • Prepare rough openings for the replacement of fire-rated and sound-rated doors.
  • Install new frames, doors, and associated hardware.
  • Collaborate with electricians for the programming of door controls and automatic door systems.
  • Replace carpeting and install or repair tile and laminated flooring.
  • Install and maintain ceiling grid systems.
  • Construct non-load bearing walls to meet specified sound transfer ratings.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED with a minimum of six (6) years of relevant experience.
  • Completion of a technical training program in HVAC or a recognized apprenticeship program is preferred.
  • Top Secret Clearance is required.

Physical Abilities:

  • Ability to lift at least 100 pounds at once and 60 pounds for extended periods.
  • Capable of relocating a 12-foot stepladder independently.
  • Comfortable working at heights up to 60 feet and maintaining balance on various types of ladders and scaffolding.
  • Engage in physical activities such as walking, climbing, lifting, squatting, crawling, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and reaching overhead regularly.
  • Possess good vision (correctable) and the ability to hear and communicate effectively in English.
  • Recognize potential issues and apply general rules to specific problems to derive sensible solutions.
  • Demonstrate the ability to combine information to form general conclusions.
