Position: Specialized Carpentry Technician II

The Specialized Carpentry Technician will be an integral part of our Facilities Engineering Operations & Maintenance (O&M) team. The ideal candidate will possess extensive hands-on experience in critical facilities upkeep and carpentry, coupled with a robust background in construction oversight. This position entails supporting the maintenance and functionality of critical facilities while applying carpentry expertise for repair and enhancement initiatives.

This role includes the installation of doors and the construction of walls within essential facilities on military installations. The technician will utilize specialized knowledge of construction methodologies, materials, and safety standards to perform these tasks efficiently, ensuring compliance with the stringent quality benchmarks required for military infrastructure. Their contributions are vital to the operational readiness and security of military bases, directly supporting mission-critical activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct routine maintenance and repair operations on critical facilities, including wood and metal doors, locks, windows, metal wall stud framing, painting, and flooring.
  • Perform maintenance on door hardware, including cleaning, lubricating, and inspecting doors and associated mechanical and electromechanical devices.
  • Test and adjust the operation and alignment of doors, troubleshooting and resolving operational issues.
  • Execute ancillary carpentry tasks related to door and window openings.
  • Construct or modify building partitions and ceilings as necessary for door installations.
  • Demolish and prepare rough openings for the replacement of fire-rated and sound-rated doors.
  • Install new frames, doors, and hardware.
  • Collaborate with electricians for the programming of door controls and automatic door operators.
  • Install and replace carpeting, tiles, and laminated flooring.
  • Install and repair ceiling grid systems.
  • Construct non-load bearing walls to achieve specified sound transfer ratings.

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED with a minimum of six (6) years of relevant experience.
  • Completion of a technical training program in HVAC from a vocational or technical institution or a recognized apprenticeship program is preferred.
  • Top Secret Clearance is required.

Abilities:

  • Ability to lift at least 100 pounds at once and 60 pounds for extended periods.
  • Capable of relocating a 12-foot stepladder without assistance.
  • Ability to work at various heights up to 60 feet and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, and all types of ladders.
  • Regularly walk, climb, lift, squat, crawl, kneel, push, pull, and reach overhead.
  • Possess good vision (correctable) and the ability to see in color, as well as the ability to hear and communicate effectively in English.
  • Capable of using a standard ladder without exceeding weight limits while carrying tools.
  • Able to recognize potential issues before they escalate.
  • Apply general rules to specific situations to derive sensible conclusions.
  • Integrate various pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions.
  • Examine details at close range.
  • Listen to and comprehend information presented through spoken communication.
