Job Description

Colt Technology Services is seeking a skilled Transmission Network Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our pan-European Ethernet and optical infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Proactively monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve faults across our Ethernet and optical infrastructure, as well as our range of transmission services.
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of our customers' bespoke networks and services.
  • Provide exceptional customer service, acting as a single point of contact for all customer issues.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key interconnect partners and vendors.
  • Manage and coordinate tasks assigned to other teams, such as Field Maintenance or Technical Assistance Centre.
  • Maintain accurate records of events throughout a fault duration, utilizing our Remedy-based Fault Management System.
  • Resolve or escalate faults as appropriate, according to product SLAs.
  • Identify, plan, and implement solutions for recurring problems on IP and Ethernet networks.
  • Generate technical reports for customer RFO/RCA requests.
  • Coordinate software upgrades with vendors and Colt teams involved.
Requirements
  • Direct experience in transmission services and technologies, including MSP, PCM, Ethernet, WDM, DWDM, TDM, ADM, DCS, DXC, SDH, and PDH.
  • Proven working experience with vendors such as Marconi, ALU, Lucent, Nortel, Nokia, NSN, Siemens, Overture, Adva, Infinera, Aspen, Netcool, Smarts, Ciena, and Accedian.
  • Understanding of provisioning and maintaining IP, Ethernet, and optical services across backbone networks.
  • Excellent knowledge of LAN-based products.
  • Experience with network management and support systems such as Netcool, SMARTS, CiscoWorks, InfoVista, TACACS, and vendor-specific element managers.
  • Experience working with global providers, NOC, and field operators for technical issues.
Skills and Qualifications
  • A logical approach to fault finding and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to control and coordinate complex technical situations in a calm and professional manner.
  • Excellent customer-facing skills, dealing with specialist requests regarding overall solutions and not limited to a single technology.
  • Customer-focused and able to communicate effectively with all required parties, including internal and external network partners and customers.
  • Fluent in English, with German being mandatory.
Desirable Skills
  • Experience diagnosing and troubleshooting IP access, MPLS, and VPN solutions across a pan-European network.
  • Formal IT qualification, such as CCNA.
  • Exposure to Juniper equipment and technologies.
  • Experience with ITIL.
