The Opportunity:

We are seeking a highly skilled Engineering Manager to join our team at commercetools. As an Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for leading a team of software engineers and driving the development of our products.

Your Mission:

  • You will be responsible for the technical direction of your team, ensuring that they are working on the most impactful projects and delivering high-quality results.
  • You will work closely with our Product Managers to understand the business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
  • You will be responsible for the growth and development of your team members, providing guidance and mentorship to help them reach their full potential.
  • You will collaborate with other Engineering Managers and technical leaders to ensure that our technical vision is aligned across the organization.
  • You will be responsible for removing blockers and ensuring that our teams are working efficiently and effectively.

What you need to succeed:

  • Multiple years of experience as a manager of software engineers in a product team.
  • An engineering background ideally in backend development on the JVM.
  • Experience in the commerce industry.
  • A passion for growing, coaching, and mentoring your team with a track record of doing so.
  • Experience in leading distributed teams and fostering belonging in a remote setup.
  • An excellent understanding of agile software development methodologies, best practices, and tools.
  • A solid understanding of software architecture and system design.
  • A beginner's mindset.
  • Excellent soft skills, most importantly communication, empathy, and self-reflection.
  • Fluent written and spoken English skills to work in an international environment.
