Position Overview
We are currently looking for an Entry-Level IT Systems Support Specialist to join our team at Terma. This role is essential in providing technical assistance and support for our operational systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary contact for incidents and issues related to operational systems through a ticketing system.
- Install and configure operating systems and software, optimizing system parameters for enhanced performance.
- Conduct analysis, planning, and performance tuning of hardware and software installations, ensuring compatibility across subsystems.
- Monitor system performance, investigate hardware and software issues, and implement corrective measures as necessary.
- Ensure operational configurations can be restored in the event of hardware or software failures, including the establishment and maintenance of backup procedures.
- Coordinate with external hardware and software maintenance providers for intervention requests and follow-ups.
- Manage user accounts, disk quotas, and provide technical support to users.
- Offer basic support for software development and maintenance, including the implementation and upkeep of scripts and procedures for automated tasks, as well as the generation or updating of technical documentation related to system upgrades.
Qualifications & Skills
Applicants should possess a university degree in computer science or a related field. A strong background in GNU/Linux operating systems, AIX, and Solaris, along with virtualization technologies such as VMware, is essential.
Mandatory Experience:
- Hands-on experience with GNU/Linux administration across various distributions.
- Proficiency in Solaris administration and troubleshooting.
- File system management skills, including EXT2-4, BTRFS, and NFS.
- Shell scripting capabilities.
- Basic IT system design knowledge.
- Experience in defining, implementing, testing, and documenting system changes.
- Ability to prepare clear and comprehensive technical documentation in English.
- Strong communication skills and a customer-oriented approach.
Preferred Experience:
- Familiarity with cloud technologies such as OpenStack and Docker.
- Advanced skills in VMware management and troubleshooting.
- Experience in high availability environments.
- Basic hardware support skills, including network setup.
- Experience with monitoring tools like Nagios.
- Previous experience in helpdesk and ticket handling is advantageous.
- Knowledge of ITIL practices.
Fluency in English, both spoken and written, is required as it is the primary working language.
