Position Overview
The Credit Ratings Analyst will collaborate with senior analysts in the assessment and oversight of credit ratings; conducting research, drafting, and disseminating reports; and engaging in various related tasks. This role involves evaluating credit risk by synthesizing inputs from both internal and external sources. The Analyst will be responsible for performing credit evaluations for assigned entities, transactions, or reviews, and is expected to contribute to discussions in rating committees while interacting with issuers and other market stakeholders alongside senior analysts.
Key Responsibilities
Credit Portfolio Management & Quality Assurance
- Assist senior analysts with daily credit evaluations pertaining to ratings, research, presentations, and outreach to investors. Analytical tasks may include:
- Analyzing financial documents and data, constructing and updating financial forecasts, and composing analytical commentary in line with Moody's methodologies.
- Supporting proprietary models and new financial projections as necessary, identifying data trends, and applying analytical judgment to derive sound credit conclusions.
- Gaining a foundational understanding of credit principles through reviewing transaction documentation, cash flow assessments, or loss allocation frameworks.
- Conducting analytical tasks related to portfolio assessments and other credit initiatives.
- Acquiring knowledge of Moody's methodologies and best practices in credit ratings, applying these with guidance from senior analysts.
- Collaborating with senior analysts to draft initial versions of rating committee documents.
- Developing the ability to recognize and analyze key factors influencing issuer credit ratings, interpreting financial data and other inputs from various sources.
- Monitoring credit quality and industry trends by staying informed on market developments and relevant news, analyzing issuer reports, and engaging with issuers for follow-up information.
- Participating in rating committee meetings, providing analysis and insights as appropriate, and preparing credit estimates for assessing credit risk elements in rated transactions.
Research, Investor Engagement & Market Interaction
- Contributing to the initial drafts of essential research documents (such as credit opinions, issuer and sector analyses, press releases, and new issue reports) in partnership with senior analysts.
- Participating in research strategy development, including idea generation and preliminary drafting, while adhering to Moody's research standards.
- Attending investor briefings and issuer meetings as necessary; assisting in the preparation of presentation materials and engaging in discussions.
- Building constructive relationships with issuers, demonstrating initiative to understand their business and proactively addressing inquiries.
Credit Administration
- Utilizing relevant ratings and research systems and software specific to the rating group.
- Exhibiting a solid understanding of Moody's processes, documentation standards, and best practices, while complying with all applicable laws and policies.
Coaching & Oversight
- Providing guidance in delegating tasks to the data processing team.
- Effectively managing workload to ensure timely completion of tasks, seeking managerial guidance for prioritization as needed.
- Offering constructive feedback to management regarding the quality and accuracy of work produced by the data processing team.
Risk Management & Compliance
- Ensuring adherence to relevant laws, regulations, policies, and procedures, completing mandatory training promptly.
- Maintaining awareness of Moody's risk management strategies.
- Enhancing understanding of cyber risks and implementing measures to avoid vulnerabilities.
- Delivering high-quality work with minimal errors.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a bachelor's degree or equivalent qualifications with strong academic performance.
- Relevant experience (including internships) is preferred, ideally within the Utilities and Infrastructure sectors or from a recognized financial institution or audit firm.
- Exceptional verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Proactive and effective in a collaborative team setting.
- Strong organizational skills, analytical thinking, and attention to detail.
- Ability to adapt to changing environments and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Some understanding of fixed income markets and/or credit knowledge is preferred.
- Accounting knowledge with a focus on financial analysis and understanding of financial statements is preferred.
- Interest and experience in utilizing GenAI is preferred.
- Fluency in English and German is essential.
- Background in finance and accounting is preferred.
