Position Overview:
The role of Senior Simulation Engineer within the Innovation & Engineering division presents an exciting opportunity to engage with pioneering infrastructure concepts and sustainability projects at Amazon. In this capacity, you will be tasked with the design and simulation of engineering solutions addressing complex challenges in yard and material handling, fostering innovation throughout the Middle Mile network.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and simulate engineering solutions for intricate yard and material handling challenges, focusing on human and equipment interactions within the Last Mile network.
  • Lead simulation initiatives to identify optimal solutions, considering equipment specifications, material flow, process design, ergonomics, operational factors, and site layout.
  • Collaborate with various customer groups to address business challenges and deliver organized data solutions.
  • Work alongside internal Subject Matter Experts to interpret simulation outcomes.
  • Design experiments and simulations, effectively communicating findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Establish and refine simulation standards, create advanced models, and execute various scenarios.
  • Document all processes meticulously using Standard Operating Procedures and structured change control methods.
  • Engage with vendors, suppliers, and cross-functional teams to drive innovative solutions.
  • Oversee multiple projects, conduct post-analysis on simulations, and implement improvements.

A Day in the Role:
Beginning with the inbound vehicle and volume profile, you will assess indicators of the processed volume's hourly distribution. This foundational data informs process-centric design. By minimizing manual interactions with shipments, the Senior Simulation Engineer will devise material flow concepts and evaluate them against established productivity and cost benchmarks. Through simulation, specific business scenarios will be modeled and validated, culminating in a comprehensive report with actionable recommendations to achieve the desired operational state.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in data scripting languages (e.g., SQL, Python, R, or equivalent) or statistical/mathematical software.
  • Experience in Data Science and statistical modeling.
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial, Mechanical, or Process Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Emulate 3D, Altair, Hypermesh, NSS, AutoCAD, and/or Flexsim.
  • Advanced knowledge of Discrete Event Simulation and coding.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with data visualization tools like Tableau or Quicksight.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing data pipelines and leading data science teams.
  • Master's or PhD in Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, Economics, or a related field.
  • Expertise in machine learning, statistical modeling, data mining, and analytics.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as HTML, Java, or Visual Basic.
  • Experience with material handling systems, process improvement, and facility flow.
  • Ability to work independently and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
