Position Overview:
The role of Senior Simulation Engineer within the Innovation & Engineering division presents a unique opportunity to engage with pioneering infrastructure concepts and sustainability projects at Amazon. In this capacity, you will design and simulate engineering solutions to address intricate yard and material handling challenges, fostering innovation throughout the Middle Mile network.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and simulate engineering solutions for complex yard and material handling issues, taking into account human and equipment interactions for the Last Mile network.
- Lead simulation initiatives to identify optimal solutions through detailed equipment specifications, material flow analysis, process design, ergonomics, and operational considerations.
- Collaborate with various customer groups to tackle business challenges and deliver structured data solutions.
- Engage with internal Subject Matter Experts to interpret simulation outcomes.
- Design experiments and simulations, effectively communicating findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Establish and refine simulation standards, create sophisticated models, and execute various scenarios.
- Document all processes meticulously using Standard Operating Procedures and structured change control methods.
- Work closely with vendors, suppliers, and cross-functional teams to drive innovative solutions.
- Oversee multiple projects, conduct post-analysis on simulations, and implement enhancements.
A Day in the Role:
Beginning with the inbound vehicle and volume profile, you will analyze indicators of processed volume distribution. This serves as the foundation for process-centric design. By minimizing manual interactions with shipments, the Senior Simulation Engineer will devise material flow concepts and assess them against established productivity and cost benchmarks. Through simulation, specific business scenarios will be modeled and validated, culminating in a comprehensive report that includes actionable recommendations to achieve the desired operational state.
Basic Qualifications:
- Proficiency in data scripting languages (e.g., SQL, Python, R, or equivalent) or statistical/mathematical software.
- Experience in Data Science and statistical modeling.
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial, Mechanical, or Process Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline.
- Familiarity with tools such as Emulate 3D, Altair, Hypermesh, NSS, AutoCAD, and/or Flexsim.
- Advanced understanding of Discrete Event Simulation and coding.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with data visualization tools like Tableau or Quicksight.
- Demonstrated experience in managing data pipelines and leading data science teams.
- Master's or PhD in Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, Economics, or a related field.
- Expertise in machine learning, statistical modeling, data mining, and analytics.
- Knowledge of programming languages such as HTML, Java, or Visual Basic.
- Experience with material handling systems, process improvement, and facility flow.
- Ability to work independently and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
