Lead Mechanic for Aerospace Ground Equipment

Purpose and Scope:
The role involves overseeing and mentoring Aerospace Ground Equipment (AGE) technicians while conducting inspections, maintenance, and servicing of designated AGE. The position requires the maintenance and inspection of hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and fuel systems, including turbine, diesel, and gasoline engine-driven AGE. The individual will manage daily operations within the AGE workshop and liaise with the AGE Functional Manager and Site Manager to ensure that work priorities are effectively addressed. All tasks must be executed in accordance with USAF technical documentation and compliance with the Performance Work Statement (PWS).
Essential Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary supervisor for training AGE mechanics and executing periodic inspections, maintenance, and repair of assigned AGE assets.
- Manage inventory, maintenance, and requisitioning of parts, tools, and supplies necessary for asset upkeep.
- Prepare AGE/FLSE and related equipment for training exercises or real-world deployments.
- Address inquiries regarding the storage and operational status of assigned equipment.
- Employ diagnostic testing tools to troubleshoot hydraulic, electrical, fuel, and pneumatic systems and components for operational readiness.
- Document and complete necessary paperwork, including work orders and US Air Force supply forms, while updating historical data and coordinating actions related to work orders.
- Direct maintenance activities following maintenance action sheets, US Air Force technical orders, and directives.
- Establish performance standards for team members, implementing quality assurance principles within the framework of the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System Standard (QMS), ensuring all work meets quality benchmarks and providing constructive feedback to employees.
- Onboard new personnel to work crews, organize work assignments, and set work methodologies.
- Conduct on-the-job training for AGE mechanics on assigned AGE/FLSE, safety protocols, material safety data sheets, security awareness, and other relevant topics.
- Maintain and update training records.
- Prepare and inspect assets and equipment for transportation via air, sea, and land.
- Perform servicing and maintenance on active assets, ensuring equipment is returned to mission-capable status.
- Generate and submit quality/material deficiency reports and technical order modifications as necessary.
- Operate material handling equipment as required.
- Inspect hazardous materials within the work area and coordinate with the appropriate office for HAZMAT disposal when necessary.
- Ensure that all tools, personal protective equipment, facilities, and clothing issued remain safe, secure, and functional, reporting any deficiencies.
- Maintain the work area to the highest standards of cleanliness.
- Travel for temporary duty assignments within the operational area as required by US Air Force directives.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Trade school certification.
- A minimum of four (4) to six (6) years of relevant maintenance experience is required.
- Familiarity with various types and applications of AGE equipment is essential.
- An electrical/mechanical background is necessary.
- Knowledge of diesel engine maintenance and repair, as well as HVAC maintenance and repair, is required.
- Forklift operation experience is mandatory.
- Proficiency in speaking, reading, writing, and understanding English is essential.
- Must be a resident of the EU and/or authorized to work in Germany.
Contract Requirements in accordance with Appendix J:
- Completion of AGE maintenance training from a military technical school or an accredited technical institution.
Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:
The work is conducted in a shop environment that is moderately lit, heated, and ventilated, with exposure to unpleasant fumes and potential cuts and bruises from tool usage in confined spaces, as well as hazards from moving vehicles such as forklifts and sweepers. Regular duties require standing, using hands for manipulation, and effective communication. Frequent activities include walking, reaching, and working in various positions. Occasional tasks may involve sitting, climbing, or balancing. Employees may encounter moving mechanical parts, extreme temperatures, and vibrations. The environment may also include wet or humid conditions, high places, fumes, and electrical hazards. The noise level is typically loud, necessitating adherence to safety protocols and the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required. Employees must be physically capable of performing all necessary duties, including lifting, pushing, or pulling a minimum of 50 lbs.
