Job Overview
As a Data Scientist (f/m/d) at the Karlsruher Institut für Technologie, you will develop interdisciplinary expertise in the realm of Digital Science. Your primary objective will be to analyze extensive datasets and render them applicable for technology evaluation (TA). Your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting discourse analyses utilizing social media and online data to monitor current trends
- Performing social science evaluations through automated methodologies
- Creating visual representations of research findings
- Developing open-source software tailored for technology assessment needs
- Collaborating on the ITAS project "TA-KI" and facilitating the application and contemplation of AI tools for knowledge acquisition within TA studies aimed at policy guidance
- Engaging in national and international knowledge sharing
Alongside this research, there is an opportunity to pursue a PhD.
Personal Qualifications
Candidates should possess a Master's degree with a concentration in quantitative analysis, computational skills, and data interpretation. Relevant fields include data science, data analytics, digital humanities, computational social science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, statistics, computer science, computational science, information systems, operations research, or similar disciplines. A substantial background in utilizing digital methodologies is essential, preferably with experience in NLP and ML libraries/packages for identifying and categorizing argumentation structures, content, and authors. Proficiency in data visualization and web data collection techniques (including tools for scraping and APIs) is required. Familiarity with social network data analysis and/or graph theory, along with experience in academic publishing and peer review, as well as knowledge of political systems and decision-making processes, will be advantageous. Strong communication skills and an openness to interdisciplinary collaboration are essential. Proficiency in German is a plus, while English is mandatory.
Compensation
The position offers a salary in category 13, contingent upon meeting professional and personal criteria.
