WIAS is seeking applications for a Mathematics Research Associate (f/m/d)

in the Research Group

"Partial Differential Equations"

(Acting Head: Dr. M. Liero) to commence work as soon as feasible.

Field of Work: This role focuses on modeling utilizing partial differential equations (PDEs) along with their analytical assessment. Candidates should possess proficiency in PDE analysis through variational techniques, including gradient-flow formulation, Gamma-convergence, and scaling laws. There is a particular emphasis on biomechanics-related challenges, such as mechanical interactions and pattern formation in hydrogels or biomembranes. The position also entails the implementation of numerical discretizations and conducting simulation studies in partnership with external collaborators.

Candidate Profile: We are in search of a dedicated and exceptional researcher holding a Ph.D. in mathematics, ideally nearing completion. The applicant should be prepared to undertake responsibilities in interdisciplinary projects alongside external collaborators from fields such as physics, biology, or engineering. A keen interest in applied mathematics, particularly applied analysis, along with a robust background in at least three of the following areas is essential:

  • Analysis of nonlinear partial differential equations (PDEs),
  • Calculus of Variations,
  • Variational methods for multi-scale problems,
  • Consistent modeling in continuum mechanics,
  • Pattern formation and phase transitions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research leading to publications in reputable international journals,
  • Present findings at international conferences and workshops,
  • Engage in interdisciplinary collaboration with partners.
