PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
The Vice President of Technical Accounting & Internal Controls - North America is responsible for overseeing and managing the corporate financial reporting obligations and operations for Fresenius Medical Care North America (FMCNA). This role entails coordinating, administering, and controlling financial reporting, analysis, budgeting, and forecasting activities in alignment with the strategic goals of the organization. The incumbent will lead the development and execution of critical initiatives to ensure compliance with company policies, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX), and other regulatory standards.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide strategic direction for both short- and long-term objectives by effectively communicating the company's mission and core values to foster positive change and enhance organizational structure within the designated business unit(s). Guide operational initiatives through subordinate teams to ensure the effective administration of business processes and services, achieving operational goals within the assigned business unit(s). Direct and manage the comprehensive activities of the business unit(s) by interpreting, applying, and implementing company-wide policies and processes relevant to the functional area(s). Supervise financial reporting and consolidation for FMCNA, ensuring timely submission of financial results to FMC AG. Ensure that budgets and timelines align with company standards, holding significant responsibility for planning, staffing, budgeting, expense prioritization, and recommending and implementing changes to current methodologies. Oversee ongoing operations within the assigned functional area(s) by directing and coordinating financial reporting, analysis, budgeting, and forecasting efforts; providing necessary supporting assumptions and analytics for senior management. Manage internal controls through process evaluations, business process analyses, and internal control assessments; ensuring adherence to company policies, GAAP, SOX, FACET, and other regulatory requirements. Oversee all external audit activities to meet compliance requirements with GAAP and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) on a regular basis, acting as the primary finance representative for FMCNA. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting activities within the assigned functional area(s) comply with company policies and procedures, as well as effective tax rates based on financial trends and corporate tax strategies. Work alongside departments providing internal control services (including SOX, FACET) to FMCNA as necessary. Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure the financial performance of the assigned business unit(s) adheres to promissory note stipulations. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement enhanced financial reporting systems and methodologies. Provide leadership, mentorship, and coaching to all direct reports to maintain an engaged and productive workforce, partnering with Human Resources on employee-related matters. Work with employees to establish clear and concise development plans, ensuring succession planning and the advancement of future leaders within the organization. Offer technical guidance as needed. Assist with various projects as assigned. Other responsibilities may include a focus on one or more departments or locations. SUPERVISION:
Responsible for the direct supervision of various levels of accounting and/or finance personnel.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's Degree required; Advanced Degree preferred
EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:
10+ years of relevant experience. 5+ years of experience in a Director role; or 5+ years in a senior managerial capacity. Experience in public accounting is preferred. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license is required. Proven experience in consolidation accounting, financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow operations. Strong computer skills with advanced proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, and email applications. Demonstrated proficiency with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP, etc.). Possess strong technical accounting skills in the preparation of financial statements in compliance with GAAP and IFRS standards. Detail-oriented with robust analytical and organizational capabilities. Strong management skills with the ability to lead cohesive and productive teams. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management through diplomacy and tact.Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
