The chair of "Artificial Intelligence & Security" is engaged in pioneering research at the crossroads of cybersecurity and artificial intelligence. Our focus is on developing innovative, learning-based techniques for detecting attacks and identifying vulnerabilities within software systems. Additionally, we investigate the resilience and security aspects of artificial intelligence technologies.
Research Focus Areas
Explainable AI (XAI) is particularly effective for identifying and mitigating attacks in both primary research domains: the security of AI systems and the application of AI in enhancing IT security. Key areas of investigation include:
- Identifying and preventing cyber attacks on computer systems
- Analyzing malware and attack patterns
- Uncovering vulnerabilities through fuzz testing
- Detecting adversarial attacks on machine learning models
- Addressing model stealing and membership inference issues
Furthermore, ensuring the robustness of XAI methods against potential attacks is of paramount importance. Future research will focus on:
- Manipulating inputs or models to conceal attacks
- Addressing biases in XAI outcomes
- Developing certifiably robust XAI methodologies
Candidate Profile
We are looking for outstanding candidates for the role of Ph.D. student/research assistant to engage in high-caliber research. Successful candidates will become part of the "KIT Graduate School Cyber Security." The research group maintains strong partnerships and collaborations with both national and international research institutions. We also operate our own server and cluster infrastructure to facilitate our research endeavors, ensuring that our team members have access to top-tier hardware.
Qualifications
- A Master's degree in computer science or a related discipline.
- Strong knowledge in the fields of computer security and/or machine learning.
- A genuine passion for exploring cutting-edge topics in cybersecurity and artificial intelligence, along with a readiness to tackle complex challenges.
Compensation
Salary will be categorized under 13 TV-L, contingent upon meeting professional and personal qualifications.
