Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, Deutschland Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft Vollzeit
Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced researcher to join our team at the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. As a Material Scientist for Jet Ink Qualification, you will be responsible for conducting research and development of high-viscosity, printable materials for use in the aerospace industry.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research on the characterization and qualification of high-viscosity, printable materials for aerospace applications
  • Develop test procedures to evaluate the spaceworthiness of materials, including gas release tests
  • Analyze rheological properties and printability of materials using modern testing equipment
  • Document and interpret research results, and derive conclusions and recommendations
Project Overview

The project involves a systematic analysis of several inks to identify their properties and behavior. The research will focus on rheological and viscoelastic measurements using a rheometer, as well as characterization of materials, including particle size distribution, particle and fluid stability, surface tension, and UV curing properties.

Next Steps

Following the initial analysis, the project will focus on identifying correlations between waveform and measurement results, and developing a simple model to predict waveform behavior. This model will enable the rapid determination of waveform properties for new inks.

Printing and Demonstrator Development
  • Support the design and printing of demonstrators for functional inkjet-printed structures
  • Conduct printing tests, including drop observation, radiation analysis, and print resolution calculations
  • Evaluate the sintering of printed structures (e.g., using THz technologies)
Requirements
  • Basic knowledge of rheology, materials science, and inkjet printing technologies
  • Experience in conducting material tests and experimental planning
  • Experience with materials suitable for aerospace applications is an advantage
  • Analytical skills and accuracy
  • Meticulous and structured work approach
  • Ability to work independently, e.g., conducting and evaluating experiments and measurements in the laboratory
  • Interest in digital printing – piezo-inkjet
  • Language skills: German (B1) and English
What We Offer
  • A practical research experience in a dynamic and innovative environment
  • Access to state-of-the-art technology and modern laboratory equipment
  • Collaboration with an engaged and interdisciplinary team
  • The opportunity to participate in a project with real-world applications in the aerospace industry
  • A fair compensation during your thesis work
  • Support from experienced scientists and experts throughout your work
  • Practical experience with modern inkjet printing technologies
