Position Overview

This project focuses on the acquisition and organization of movement data from the Movebank database. Utilizing high-resolution maps of land cover and various environmental factors, the goal is to investigate the intra-specific variations in habitat selection among agricultural bird species. Responsibilities include data retrieval from online resources, data processing, and reporting. The final deliverables will consist of a comprehensive written report and a presentation at departmental seminars. Active participation in the BIOECOS group’s regular activities, including seminars, meetings, and journal clubs, is also expected. Note that this position does not involve fieldwork.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect data from the Movebank database
  • Clean, organize, and prepare data for analysis
  • Integrate movement data with environmental variables
  • Perform spatial analyses using environmental data maps (e.g., land cover or bioclimatic maps)

Candidate Profile

  • Currently pursuing a relevant MSc degree in disciplines such as Environmental or Earth Sciences, Ecology, Biology, or Geography
  • Proficient in written and spoken English; knowledge of German is not required, as English is the working language
  • Familiarity with geographic information systems (e.g., ArcGIS)
  • Proficient in a programming language (preferably R)
  • Strong statistical analysis skills
  • Ability to work autonomously
