Packaging Engineer for Sterile Medical Products

About the Role

This position will be responsible for implementing and coordinating processes and designs for the packaging of sterile medical tube sets, creating reliable standards for future projects. The engineer will design, specify, and document packaging variants in accordance with the Medical Device Regulation (MDR) and internal quality processes from development to serial production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and modify packaging concepts and palletizing schemes for sterile medical devices.
  • Develop and maintain a library of existing packaging materials and categorize their performance levels.
  • Specify, present, and document packaging variants for the packaging stages from product to pallet.
  • Correspond with project management, system architecture, and production sites.
  • Act as the central contact person for packaging issues at the company site.
  • Conduct feasibility analyses for the use of new packaging materials/packaging concepts.
  • Execute 'Design to Cost' and 'Design to Manufacturing' analyses.
  • Establish test plans for packaging tests in early phases of product development.
  • Coordinate and evaluate packaging tests.
  • Accompany the design transfer from development to series production.

General Tasks

  • Ensure strict compliance with quality, occupational safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Implement instructions from the quality/environmental management representative and occupational safety specialist.

Requirements

  • Technical degree or completed technical training in packaging engineering.
  • Professional experience in packaging/packaging materials in medical technology.
  • Good knowledge of ISO 13485, ISO 9001, and MDR requirements.
  • High technical understanding and good communication skills.
  • Good skills in spoken and written English.
  • IT user skills and confident handling of common office programs.
  • Good SAP knowledge.
  • Good Creo knowledge (or a similar CAD 3D program).
  • Self-motivated, independent, and structured work style.

Travel Requirements

  • Willingness to travel to suppliers or production sites.
