Your Role:
As a Data Center Engineer, you will take charge of the upkeep of our co-locations and on-site data center. Your responsibilities will include:
- Installing and cabling switches, servers, and appliances within our on-site data center.
- Upholding a consistent and organized cable management approach.
- Transporting equipment to and from remote co-locations, including packing and shipping.
- Maintaining our data center documentation, with the potential to take full ownership of this task.
- Facilitating the installation of servers and network equipment with remote assistance across co-locations.
- Managing power and space, including monitoring and capacity planning.
- Planning relocations and new setups.
- Contributing to the construction and maintenance of our office infrastructure, including our trading floor.
- Overseeing our equipment inventory.
- Performing hardware-related tasks such as replacing hard drives, memory, and transceivers as needed by our server and network teams.
Qualifications:
- Strong creative problem-solving abilities: you will be expected to devise solutions independently.
- Experience in a modern, large-scale data center environment.
- Robust documentation and logistics skills.
- Attention to detail, cleanliness, and a preference for simplicity.
- Ability to recognize basic components of network equipment, such as SFPs, line cards, and chassis.
- Ability to identify fundamental parts of servers, including memory, network cards, and hard drives.
- Knowledge of structured cabling systems using Cat 5, Cat 6, multi-mode, and single-mode fiber.
- Familiarity with power and communications cabling standards.
- Experience in configuring and utilizing cable testers for both fiber and copper to resolve cabling issues.
- An understanding of change control processes.
