About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Galileo AIV Engineer to join our team at DLR GfR mbH. As a key member of our Galileo Service Operator (GSOp) team, you will be responsible for performing corrective, preventive, adaptive, and perfective maintenance activities for the Galileo maintenance, validation, and operational environments.

As a Galileo AIV Engineer, you will be part of the leading team for the handover of maintenance activities from the design authority to GSOp. You will work closely with our OPS/L1 and L3 teams to resolve problems, restore systems, manage vulnerabilities, and respond to security incidents.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delving into subject expertise related to Galileo Ground Segment and understanding the end-to-end Galileo System.
  • Assisting OPS/L1 and L3 teams with problem resolution, system restoration, vulnerability management, and security incident response.
  • Performing all maintenance procedures of the segment manual autonomously.
  • Completing L2 maintenance training needs analysis and training plan.
  • Supporting incident resolution and anomaly root cause identification.
  • Supporting major Ground Infrastructure Releases incorporation activities.
  • Actively supporting all milestone reviews related to the L2/L3 maintenance handover.
  • Coordinating and supporting with L2 colleagues from other segments.
  • Supporting continuous service improvement initiatives from a technical point of view.
  • Maintaining and evolving the maintenance and troubleshooting platform.
  • Providing inputs to Configuration Management activities; mentoring new L2 maintenance engineers.

The position is based in Oberpfaffenhofen (Weßling, Germany).

About You

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced professional with a Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering or equivalent. You should have at least two years of experience in Operations or maintenance of complex ICT environments as well as in Ground systems testing and validation.

Key qualifications include:

  • Experience using Linux and Linux scripting.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMWare or Docker.
  • Troubleshooting experience.
  • An advanced level of English (at least C1).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and negotiation skills.

Desirable qualifications include:

  • Knowledge of automation tools: Ansible, Kubernetes, Selenium.
  • Software/Web development experience.
  • Knowledge of network configuration and design.
  • Availability to support on-call service.
  • Experience providing guidance and leadership to novice systems engineers.
