About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Controls Verification Engineer to join our team at Medtronic. As a key member of our Surgical Operating Unit, you will play a critical role in the development and enhancement of our globally launched Robotic Assisted Surgery platform.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership in developing, executing, and troubleshooting software test activities in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Lead the test team to develop efficient test plans and ensure adequate coverage for clinical usages.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including software architects, developers, system engineers, and clinical specialists.
  • Train and mentor junior colleagues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline, preferably controls or robotics related, with 10 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with at least 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficient use of modeling and simulation software (MATLAB/Simulink strongly preferred).
  • Familiarity with multi-body kinematics and dynamics and familiarity with position, velocity, and torque feedback controllers.
  • Experience with real-time software on microprocessor-based systems and developing software in a Linux environment (Ubuntu preferred).
  • Experience with different testing methodologies, including SysIL, HIL, SIL, or MIL tests.
  • Experience with testing software under different software and hardware variants and experience with developing tests using plant models.
  • Familiarity with scripting language, preferably Python for generation of automated tests.
  • Experience with SDLC process and tools, including JIRA, Git, JAMA, Bitbucket (Stash), and Bamboo.
  • Great communication and leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Medical product development experience, including hands-on experience with medical/surgical devices/instruments; familiarity with medical device regulations, including IEC 62304.
  • Experience with a big company with matrix structures, having already worked with cross-functional teams using Agile/Scrum/SAFe methodologies.
  • Ability to work with systems, mechanical, electrical, and software engineers when discovering, documenting, and resolving integration issues.
