Key Responsibilities:
Under the guidance of the Manager of PTPU, the Senior Programme Specialist will undertake the following responsibilities:
- Coordination of UNITAR Activities: Oversee and manage initiatives related to "Online Learning and Education" (OLE), ensuring alignment with UNITAR's strategic objectives.
- Partnership Development: Cultivate relationships with potential donors, including non-traditional sources, to secure support for UNITAR's online learning programs.
- Cross-Organizational Collaboration: Facilitate coordination of educational activities across UNITAR and with various stakeholders, including UN agencies, governments, NGOs, and the private sector.
- Academic Oversight: Address academic-related tasks as assigned and assess training needs, collaborating with academic partners to design and deliver effective learning interventions.
- Strategic Implementation: Develop and execute academic strategies that align with the long-term objectives of the program.
- Staff Management: Supervise and evaluate the performance of the Online Learning and Education Section staff.
- Public Engagement: Participate in marketing efforts, public relations, and outreach events to enhance the visibility of the program and foster new partnerships.
- Outreach Coordination: Lead the creation of outreach materials and the organization of events to promote educational initiatives.
- Program Development: Identify opportunities for program enhancement and incubate innovative methodologies to diversify and improve the educational portfolio.
- Technology Integration: Ensure the adoption of cutting-edge technologies and methodologies in the program, maintaining high-quality standards for learning materials and reports.
Support to the Programme Manager:
- Provide comprehensive support to the Programme Manager, including document preparation, briefing materials, and presentations.
- Deliver training sessions as required.
- Produce various written outputs as requested.
Expected Outcomes:
- Successful coordination and execution of educational initiatives.
- Strategic and technical contributions to the program.
- Identification of relevant synergies and funding opportunities.
- Effective advocacy and dissemination of program products and services.
- Successful representation of the program at OLE events and meetings.
Competencies Required:
Professionalism: Demonstrated expertise in Online Learning and Education, project management, and the ability to develop new strategies. Strong analytical skills and familiarity with contemporary humanitarian issues are essential.
Planning & Organizing: Ability to set clear goals, manage time effectively, and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
Communication: Proficient in clear and effective communication, both written and verbal, with a focus on fostering two-way dialogue.
Teamwork: Collaborative approach to achieving organizational goals, valuing diverse perspectives and fostering an inclusive environment.
Accountability: Commitment to ownership of responsibilities and adherence to organizational standards.

Minimum Qualifications:
Experience: At least seven years of relevant experience in project or program management within international affairs, peacebuilding, and training development. Experience with higher education institutions and international organizations is preferred.
Education: Master’s degree or equivalent in International Relations, Political Science, Education, Peace and Security, or a related field.
Languages: Fluency in English; knowledge of a second official UN language is advantageous.
