Bruchsal, Baden-Württemberg, Deutschland Volocopter GmbH Vollzeit

Company Overview

At Volocopter, we are at the forefront of revolutionizing urban air mobility with our innovative electric air taxis (eVTOLs). Our commitment is to seamlessly integrate sustainable aerial transport into the existing infrastructure of megacities worldwide. Since our groundbreaking crewed flight of a fully electric multicopter in 2011, we have successfully conducted over 2,000 test flights globally.

Role Overview

Your mission in this role:

As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will leverage your expertise in the development of intricate systems to drive advancements in eVTOL aviation. Your extensive background in system architecture and requirements engineering, coupled with a deep understanding of verification and validation processes in aviation—particularly in avionics—will be crucial. You will collaborate within a diverse team to facilitate the successful certification of Volocopter's avionics systems.

Key Responsibilities:

Manage internal system engineering processes in alignment with development lifecycle requirements, including requirements management and program milestone deliverables. Oversee integration activities for newly developed and commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) equipment, including planning integration tests, reviewing test procedures, and conducting environmental qualification gap analyses. Act as the primary liaison between the laboratory testing team and the flight testing team to coordinate verification efforts. Support the validation and supervision of verification activities for the entire avionics system. Assist in achieving system-level and component-level milestones (PDR / CDR / TRR). Contribute to development assurance activities, including system audits with authorities to demonstrate compliance with ARP-4754A. Generate compliance documentation for certification, including certification plans, test plans, design reviews, and analysis reports. Provide support during formal audits and interactions with regulatory bodies.

Required Qualifications:

Essential skills include:

A Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field. A minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience in aerospace development. Strong knowledge and practical experience with the system development lifecycle as per ARP4754A. Familiarity with avionics functions and technologies related to communication, navigation, surveillance, indication, crew alerting, and data recording. Understanding of certification deliverables for Type Certificate programs in CS-25/23/29/27. Knowledge of aviation standards such as ARP4761 and DO-160. Excellent analytical skills and a methodical approach to achieving objectives. Proficient in written and spoken English.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with software and airborne electronic hardware standards DO-178 and DO-254. Previous experience in an EASA-approved Design Organization (Part21J) is advantageous.
