Principal Legal Counsel

We are seeking a seasoned Principal Legal Counsel to lead our Antitrust and Trade Law team in navigating the complexities of global competition law.
The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of EU competition law, merger control, and foreign direct investment regimes, with experience advising platforms or tech companies.
As a key member of our Legal, Governance and Assurance department, you will provide strategic guidance on competition law matters, develop innovative solutions to address legal risks, and foster a culture of compliance throughout the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and advise on all aspects of competition law, including merger control, antitrust investigations, and commercial agreements, across 60+ jurisdictions.
- Provide pragmatic advice on structuring and risks of potential M&A transactions, including merger control and foreign direct investment filing assessments.
- Lead on antitrust investigations, developing strategies and updating senior management on these investigations.
- Guide local legal teams on competition law matters, including investigations and compliance questions.
- Advise on international trade law, particularly on risk mitigation strategies related to EU and US sanctions laws.
- Develop managerial skills by leading on strategic projects.
- Coordinate and negotiate terms with external lawyers.
Requirements
- 8+ years of post-qualification experience in reputable international law firms and in-house positions, focusing on competition and trade law.
- Expertise in EU competition law, including merger control, vertical restraints, cartel investigations, and platform regulations.
- Experience with competition and foreign direct investment regimes across multiple jurisdictions.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of providing on-the-spot, pragmatic advice to business teams and senior executives.
- Leadership skills, with a track record of leading teams on projects and managing more junior lawyers effectively.
- Full proficiency in English, with knowledge of German or other languages an asset.
