About the Role

The Max Planck Computing and Data Facility (MPCDF) is a leading competence center for high-performance computing and data-intensive projects. We are seeking a skilled Linux System Administrator to join our data division and contribute to the development and maintenance of our data services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and further develop the MPCDF data services
  • Operate and administer Linux systems and data-driven services
  • Implement modern DevOps procedures and automation techniques
  • Collaborate with the data division team to ensure smooth operation of data services
Requirements
  • Good knowledge of Linux system administration and scripting (Python, Bash)
  • Experience with data-driven services and web-based applications
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication skills (English and German)
Desirable Skills
  • Experience with automation tools (Ansible, similar technologies) and virtualization techniques (VMWare, Proxmox)
  • Familiarity with GitLab instances or similar web-based services
  • Interest in science and research

The full-time position starts as soon as possible and is initially limited for a period of up to two years, with the possibility of extending this to a permanent position.
