Insurance Services Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Insurance Coordinator plays a crucial role in assisting kidney dialysis patients by identifying, recommending, and coordinating various insurance and financial aid options available within a designated area, all while ensuring the company's revenue is maximized. This position aligns with the mission, vision, core values, and customer service principles of Fresenius Medical Care.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The coordinator will engage with dialysis patients at clinics in the assigned region to provide education and support regarding insurance options:
- Inform patients about alternative insurance options, including Medicare, Medicaid, Medicare Supplement, State Renal programs, and COBRA.
- Assist patients in completing the application process.
- Collect premium statements and necessary signatures from patients.
- Discuss changes in employment status or other circumstances that may affect insurance.
- Manage paperwork for disputed claims to ensure resolution.
- Gather required documents for initial and annual indigent waivers.
- Address insurance options in the event of contract terminations.
Responsibilities related to Medicare and Medicaid include:
- Assessing Medicare eligibility through patient meetings and liaising with local Social Security offices.
- Guiding eligible patients through the Medicare application process.
- Acting as a liaison for patients regarding Medicare terminations and reinstatements.
- Facilitating annual open enrollment and Medicare reinstatement documentation.
- Monitoring the 30-month coordination period for patients on employer Group Health Plans.
- Regularly verifying Medicaid status and determining spend down amounts.
- Evaluating personal financial information to assist in indigent program eligibility.
- Completing and tracking indigent waiver applications.
- Ensuring accurate and updated insurance information for the Accounts Receivable Department.
- Investigating and resolving any discrepancies in patient insurance information.
- Meeting with patients receiving direct payments to ensure timely payment for dialysis services.
- Preparing and analyzing monthly reports to monitor caseload progress and ensure accuracy in billing systems.
- Providing the QA team with monthly updates on patients' insurance status and action plans.
- Conducting monthly audits to remain compliant with internal policies.
- Presenting information on insurance and financial assistance options to patients as needed.
- Assisting with additional projects as directed by the supervisor.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This role requires local travel to various clinics within the designated area and necessitates a valid Driver's License. The work environment is typical of a healthcare facility, involving desk work, personal computer usage, and interaction with patients and staff.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's Degree is required; a focus in Social Work or Healthcare is preferred.
- 2 to 5 years of relevant experience, preferably in the healthcare sector.
- Familiarity with Medicare, Social Security, and Medicaid systems is advantageous.
- Experience in patient interaction is beneficial.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- A strong commitment to customer service.
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
- Capability to work independently.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
