Senior Golang Engineer

In the Global Banking division, we are constructing the essential infrastructure and core services required to offer our merchants a digital banking solution that empowers them to excel in their endeavors. Our ambition is to establish ourselves as the preferred banking partner for small businesses worldwide by delivering a premium banking experience tailored to their unique needs - seamless, straightforward, and cost-effective.
By joining our team, you will play a pivotal role in the development of SumUp's proprietary digital banking platform. Become part of a global, self-sufficient, cross-functional team that takes ownership of an aspect of our product and enhances it from inception to implementation. Collaborate with a diverse team representing 32 nationalities across various locations who are passionate about taking initiative, working with purpose, and enabling businesses to flourish.
As a Senior Backend Engineer (Golang), your responsibilities will include facilitating the transition from a localized banking setup to a unified Global Banking system. A key challenge will be to assist in our shift towards a fully distributed, event-driven architecture.
Key Responsibilities
Partner with the global team to design and develop a cohesive global platform, encompassing high-level APIs for various regions and local adaptations, while ensuring optimal availability and observability. Construct and sustain highly available, self-healing, and resilient event-driven systems. Aid in the migration of systems and processes, guaranteeing zero downtime for clients, and design, implement, and support high-value features for our customers. Enhance test coverage for existing services and oversee the comprehensive delivery of changes, including testing, observability, and monitoring. Continuously elevate our engineering culture by refining best practices, identifying problems and opportunities, prototyping solutions, providing thorough documentation, and selecting new tools and technologies.Ideal Candidate Profile
Strong programming expertise in Golang and a willingness to work with additional languages such as Java, Kotlin, and Elixir. Extensive background as a Backend Engineer with a focus on distributed, fault-tolerant, and event-driven systems. Proven track record in system design, data modeling, and API design. Practical experience with Kafka, Postgres, and SQL databases. Familiarity with modern cloud technologies (AWS, Docker, Kubernetes). Experience with CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions and ArgoCD. A strong sense of ownership, pride in your work, and a commitment to writing clear, maintainable, and testable code. A product-focused engineer who is enthusiastic and inquisitive about addressing user challenges.Additional Qualifications
