Training as a Materials Testing Technician

Throughout your apprenticeship, you will acquire essential competencies in metal processing and learn to independently assess materials and components. You will also gain insights into modifying and enhancing their characteristics through various technological methods. Our training encompasses both chemical and physical analysis techniques. Additionally, you will be involved in a range of measurements and data collection, allowing you to manage logging and computer analysis independently.

What You Will Learn
  • Understanding mechanical manufacturing techniques (turning, milling, drilling, soldering)
  • Knowledge of material production and processing
  • Designing experimental methodologies, setting up or adjusting equipment
  • Executing mechanical assessments (tensile, compressive, bending tests, hardness tests, notch impact bending tests)
  • Utilizing physical measurement techniques (magnetic measurements, electrical conductivity)
  • Preparing metallographic specimens (preparation, grinding, polishing, etching) and documenting them microscopically
  • Conducting hardness evaluations
  • Fundamentals of Non-Destructive Testing (ultrasound, dye penetrant testing, radiography)
  • Heat treatment processes for metals and plastics (tempering, hardening, annealing)
  • Carrying out various materials science assessments according to established guidelines or standards
  • Documenting test outcomes and performing necessary calculations and evaluations
Qualifications
  • A solid educational background from intermediate level (preferred), technical college entrance qualification, or general university entrance qualification, with commendable performance in mathematics and natural sciences
  • Genuine enthusiasm and curiosity about the physical and chemical properties of materials
  • Attention to detail and meticulous work ethic
  • Strong analytical and logical reasoning skills
  • Dependability and a high level of autonomy
  • Proficiency in operating technical equipment
  • Physical stamina (occasional handling of loads up to 20 kg)
