Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled researcher to join our team at Fraunhofer IOSB. As a Scientist in the field of optical fiber components, you will be responsible for developing, investigating, and optimizing fiber components and designs for high-power fiber laser architectures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and optimize fiber components and designs for high-power fiber laser architectures in the fluoride and silica material system and in the combination of both materials in the spectral range > 1.5 μm
  • Calculate, simulate, and optimize fiber components (pump couplers, wavelength-division multiplexers, filters, mode-field adapters, cladding mode strippers, etc.) for the use with multi-clad fibers, polarization-maintaining fibers, and novel fiber geometries
  • Contribute to the scientific investigation of fiber lasers to evaluate different fiber laser architectures in a broad team of experts in the field of photonic components, laser sources, and nonlinear converters
  • Work independently on projects in the field of fiber design and structure research and write reports and publications in English or German language
Requirements:
  • Degree (diploma/master) in physics, electrical engineering, or equivalent disciplines
  • Knowledge and relevant professional experience in simulation techniques and programs to model modal structures and thermal effects in fibers (COMSOL Multiphysics, modal solvers, etc.)
  • Knowledge and relevant professional experience in fiber preform manufacturing or fiber drawing and basic knowledge in fiber lasers would be of advantage
