The Navigational Officer is a critical member of the Deck Department, responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient navigation of the vessel.
Key Responsibilities:- Navigation Watch: Conduct an efficient navigational watch at sea for 8 hours per day and duty watches in port, ensuring the vessel's safe passage and adherence to maritime regulations.
- Moorings and Gangways: Regularly inspect moorings and gangways, particularly in ports with strong tides and high tidal ranges, to ensure the vessel's secure mooring and safe access.
- Emergency Drills: Participate in emergency drills, including Fire and Abandon Ship Drills, and fulfill specific duties as outlined in the Muster List.
- Vessel Maintenance: Contribute to the maintenance of the vessel's navigational equipment, steering gear, and bridge controls, ensuring they are in good working order.
- Training and Development: Participate in training activities for new crew members and volunteer recruits, emphasizing safety, fire fighting, life-saving, pollution prevention, and the Company's Safety, Environmental, and Quality (SEQ) policies.
- Pre-Departure Checks: Complete pre-departure checks, including the testing of navigational equipment and the inspection of lifeboats, to ensure the vessel is ready for sea.
