Neutron Spectrometer Instrument Scientist

Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Instrument Scientist to contribute to the PANDA neutron spectrometer team. This role involves engaging in cutting-edge research and supporting the development of advanced data collection methodologies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate in the commissioning of the PANDA spectrometer, including the integration of innovative technologies such as the ADR cryostat and BAMBUS multiplexing secondary spectrometer.
- Provide expert support to users of the PANDA spectrometer, ensuring a seamless research experience.
- Drive the development of the PANDA instrument to address future experimental demands.
- Formulate and execute an independent research agenda within the framework of the JCNS institutes, leveraging a diverse array of complementary techniques.
- Disseminate research findings through publications and presentations at international conferences, contributing to the scientific community.
- Actively promote the user base at MLZ through outreach and engagement initiatives.
Candidate Profile:
- Master’s degree followed by a PhD in Physics, Magnetism, Quantum Phenomena, or a related field.
- Proven experience in neutron scattering techniques for studying the structure and excitations in condensed matter systems, including quantum magnets and thermoelectrics.
- Strong technical interest and experience in neutron instrumentation.
- Demonstrated success in inelastic neutron scattering research.
- Experience in mentoring and teaching across various educational levels.
- Familiarity with securing third-party funding for research projects.
- Excellent communication skills, with a commitment to public engagement and the popularization of neutron scattering methods.
- Proficiency in English, with a willingness to acquire German language skills up to B2 level.
- A proactive, creative mindset with strong interpersonal skills, analytical thinking, and a results-oriented approach.
- Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within the PANDA team.
